1997 mariner mag 3 150

Hey guys I was wanting to run something by. I have been restoring a left out in the field 1997 ranger with a mariner 150 on it for about a year. Pulled fuel tank cleaned new fuel lines, pump rebuilt, carbs rebuilt. The issue I am having fires up runs great idles great no issues at all. Until I run a good distance on the upper end and stop to fish. It will not want to restart. To the point you don't think it's going to. When it finally does blows a bunch of smoke. Then runs great. I have been reading about vapor lock. So I took it out ran hard stopped pulled the cowling let it sit fires right back up. Also tried letting it sit and idle for a few minutes before shutting down which also helped. It fired right back up. Would these symptoms and fixes point to vapor lock or am I missing something else. Thanks for any response.
