I have a problem with my tilt/trim motor. The motor will always tilt down, but sometimes it won't come back up. When it does that I can hear the motor click, but it won't move. Sometimes I can come back 10 minutes later and it will work fine, other times I have to wait longer. Is there a quick fix I can try besides replace the motor? If I have to replace the motor what is a good source, or can they be rebuilt?
Thanks
Dave

Re: 1997 Mariner tilt/trim

i had the same problem with my trim and tilt,on my 89 mariner 4cyl 40hp magnum, i tried several things and nothing really helped. one thing i did try was tapping on the motor with the switch held, that worked at times but what a big pain that was. turned out to be the motor brushes. i was on vacation and could not find anyone to rebuild it as parts are very very hard to find. so i bought a new pump and motor assy, 750.00. OUCH!!!!!!! vacation money. i have since had the other motor and pump assy overhauled along with the switch and relay harness that mounts on the motor housing. its just sitting on my shelf. if you think you might need one let me know. i think the rebuilts go for about 350..-450.00. i will make you a good deal on mine if you need one.its ready to go,complete pump and motor and harness and relays assy and switch. it is a merc mariner original equipment(factory). e-mail me if your interested.. reowheel@ejourney.com i live in michigan.
