I have a commander 3000 controls mounted on bayliner boat. If I push the center button on control box to raise the idle to start I get nothing, (this is how you control your speed in neutral). I have to get control in shift position to get motor to crank but I can't control the idle. So question Is this a bad neutral safety switch and if so were is the switch located? It does not show on the controls parts break down diagram, is the switch on the motor? Thanks for any input!

The manual shows a 2000 not a 3000. The switch has to be adjacent to the casting that makes up the single lever remote which means it's internal to the control box. Getting the box off the bulkhead so that you can get to the bolts to separate the halves of the box isn't easy.

First place to start is to remove the handle. Push the lever all the way toward the firewall...WOT. Look under the handle casting and you will see a hex-Allen-socket screw that attaches the handle to the shaft that operates the internal parts. Remove it and then the fun starts....trying to get a corroded aluminum casting off a SS shaft. Good luck.

Ok but I still do not see a switch listed in the parts break down of the control box, If it is in the control box I think it will time to get another control box rather than mess with the old on. I was hoping it would be on the engine and not the box.

I went to the boat today nice sunny day and the fast idle worked as should, boat has been sitting and we had a lot of rain maybe bad connection or moisture somewhere in the control box.

The engine has no fast idle distinction. It has to be in the control box and a mechanical to electrical interface.....a switch has to get depressed by a piece of something (cast aluminum) that moves when you move the lever/is part of the lever assembly. Just because the draftsperson who did the IPB left it out doesn't mean its not there. Maybe it's part of a subassembly and you have to break down the subassy to see it.
