Hello. I have a 1997 Minn Kota 33AT (33 lbs thrust) All Terrain bow mounted trolling motor and I am having electrical problems. First, it started tripping the breaker and then it quit working in any speed but the highest (speed 5). I thought the problem was the 5-speed switch in the foot pedel, so I ordered a new one from Minn Kota. I replaced it and that did not affect the motor at all. It still only ran on speed 5. Then I decided to try to take apart the actual motor assembly and I found the problem. In the very front of the motor assembly (part # 406024 FRONT ENDBELL W/POTTED COIL) the wires are all melted together.

Well, I'm stumped now. Any ideas on what my next course of action should be?

Well, I called Minn Kota yesturday and they told me that the nose cone part that would fix my motor is no longer available, so the only way to fix my trolling motor would be to purchase a whole new lower unit and shaft which would cost over $100. I'm thinking that it isn't worth it.

Why not look at Craigs List or E-bay for an identical motor that may need some other repair. You not only get the part you need but you have some other spare parts.

Just so you know, a Cabela's ad in todays paper showed a 34# troller for $119. Endura I believe - it's a transom mount but I'm betting the motor unit itself could be installed on the shaft for your AT.

Thanks for the information. I really needed a trolling motor for a week long fishing trip I was going on last week, so I went ahead and bought a new trolling motor. I got a 40 lbs. thrust Minn Kota Edge (bow mount) at Walmart for $336. This trolling motor is almost identicle to my old trolling motor, so I should be able to use the old one for parts if needed. Plus there is a 2 year warranty.
