Did a lot of trolling today. Motor running perfect 1200 rpm for several hours then just shut off like someone turned the key. The motor fired right back up and trolled another hour or so without further incident. On the way back to the ramp I noticed the tach acting erratically. Last maybe 3-4 minute then stopped.

Ran some tests on the tach per the manual. Pulled the connector off the tach and checked the voltages per the tack troubleshooting procedure.. I had a good solid 12.36 voltage at the battery and between the black and purple wire in the tach harness. Tested for voltage between black and grey wires and found 10.2 voltages. Manual say 0 should be found. Disconnected the purple wire at the oil pump harness and voltage remained. Disconnected the grey wire from the boat harness where it went to the R/R assembly, voltage went to zero. Manual say that R/R assembly is bad and needs replaced.

Dos anyone agree? Don?t want to spend the money for a new R/R if this test is inconclusive and further investigation is warranted

It's bad , replace it with the newer style one wire R/R as they dont use the purple wire to turn it on...and replace wing nuts on battery with locknuts..

Thanks for the info.
Any idea what would have caued caused the failure? Perferred brand as a replacement? I can get Mallory, Sierra, CDi or OEM

FWIW: Already using locknuts on my battery connections.

It wasnt the greatest design anyway and it is water cooled so you could have a mineral/salt buildup on bottom of R/R that decreased cooling of R/R.
CDI and OEm are the same as CDI supplys the BRP replacement parts. I would use the CDI or Serria..
