Try SEM Colorcoat. I used their vinyl dye on my seats and it worked really well (no, I don't work for SEM). These products are actually dyes vs. paint so they bleed into the substrate. As with other coatings, correct prepping impacts final results to a great degree. They offer OEM marine colors if you need.

looks like this just about wraps it up for the season. when the snow melts and i get my seats back from the upholster, i'll update this asap. until then it looks like i'll be trying to tackle the console dilemma. I emailed SEM and they said most of the release agent would be removed in their prep process, which they emailed me a video of.... which included about 6 other products they sell, so i still have to tally it up but may be way more than its worth.

Looking good!

For the plastic console, they also make this "bumper" primer.

Allows the top cost to flex with out cracking... I would expect it to stick to plastic also...

I learned one thing about getting paint advice, ask a paint shop instead of a body shop.

Paint suppliers have all sorts of products they should be trained on, and I learned to ask the person that looks like they are in charge if you get a ??? Look :watermelon:

i do have an actual "paint shop" about 25 minutes away so in the next few weeks i'll just bring it to them and see what ideas and/or products they may have. I was able to fix the cracks on the inside, just need to figure out what i'll be painting it with so i can most likely sand the whole thing down to smooth (and remove the ripple texture).

and i think i'll use jjv's best in the spring. From videos of both products, sharkhide gives a real bleached white finish and jjvs seems to retain the silver color

Got a picture of some of the seats from the upholster today. The first picture is the example i sent him, the next ones are before and afters. I was looking to match them to the brand new premier's style. The old foam seemed good enough to me, plus the bases were all plastic so they are perfect condition as well. What do you think?

I have always wondered how much it would cost to have some items redone...

I have 5 pads that need to be redone + I want two extended pads for my extending of the cabin, then another for the center.

right now I'm leaning towards doing it my self, shopping for a vintage machine that can sew the stuff...

Here is a second captain seat i picked up for 10 bucks on craigslist, and about 75 to 100 to upholster (i'll know when i get the bill). I am going to put this in place of one of the front benches as a fishing seat. I still had him upholster all the benches in case I didn't like it so i could switch it back. So all in all for upholstery for 3 bench seats, 2 captains seats (driver seat and new one), and the large 8ft back seat (1 bench and two corners), and console, i'm in it $950. Not bad when the other quotes i got were 4,000 and 5,000. I'm sure the 5000 job may have had fancier this and better that, but for the price i can't complain and I changed the color scheme 3 or 4 times which anyone else wood have said come and get your sh*t back haha

i've also had second thoughts on my decals, (as some may have seen in a post in the pontoon section). I found these decals for $200 and I think i may pick them up and rip off the old ones in the spring. I wanted to whole boat to look new, and I think i failed on the original decal design, and they seem a little too "austin powers" for my liking.

thanks. like i said before, its not perfect, but for 850 for an entire boat using name brand vinyl.... it works for my family. The old seats were so dry rotted (the fabric) it was cracking at every seam and if you sat or kneeled on them you could hear the cracking. at least now it will be soft on everyones rear!

picked the seats up with a uhaul trailer, and into the shed for the next 4 months :grumpy: ...... i hate waiting!!! I did however trade him my bimini top, so he will be doing that in the next few weeks in Top Gun fabric in black.

Well I'm back! Spring is here, technically, so as soon as the ground dries out and I can get the boat out of the yard without tearing it up I will get back to work. I just got pictures of my Bimini top from the upholsterer. Like the seats, you get what you pay for and I hope it pulls a little tighter once it's on the boat with the straps, but for 200 bucks it will serve it's purpose. Top Gun fabric so it should hold up just fine!

Also, for the console, I sanded it down through the layers of top coating (what a pain). I then decided to go with SEM products which, as long as you follow their process, is pretty much guarenteed to stick to anything. Its about 5 steps and cost about $55 total, but I guess it beats having a bodyshop paint it for $100 just to have to chip off in a couple of years.

Alright, i have the boat back in the yard (still too cold to get going), but I was able to paint the dash and the button panel. I ended up doing the SEM process, about 5 steps and 60 bucks but it looks great in my opinion. The button panel was faded white and looked 20 years old so i painted that the same color, threw on some decals and voila!

I have the bimini top, picked it up yesterday, so I hope to get a hand to put it on in the next few days.
