Re: 1997 Premier rebuild

I lied. I was bored so i went outside and put the top on, took the winter cover off, and took a few pics. Not bad for a $250 bimini, top gun fabric, good fit. It is a bit thicker than the stock fabric was but it should last forever. Still not sure about the decals. I made a new design that will get rid of the back of the stripes, the part that comes up and over, and had it made so when I get it i'll throw it up on the side and see which one I like better... (pictured below).

And yes thats the carpet you see..... it almost looks white when looking front to back but tans up a little when looking from back to front..... its gonna get dirty, i'll clean it the first few times and eventually I'll say $$$$ IT! Its a boat afterall :)

Looks good! What was the process for the steering wheel. Been thinking about what to do with mine.

Bought a new one haha. I just switched the emblem. I think it was 24 bucks, would have cost the same to try and restore it and I probably wouldn't have been happy with the outcome

Re: 1997 Premier rebuild

So i was partially unhappy with the "old" look of the decals, which was a bad color choice on my part, but the hard angles didn't help. In order to save money, I had some curves made up and replaced the sharp edges. I also (as I think I explained in an earlier post) am replacing one of the front bench seats with a fishing seat, so i constructed a small box to go in the front corner. This has 2 cup holders (1 for drink 1 for phone, etc..) and a small hole in front in case i want to throw some random thing in it (not sure what yet). I am going to put some coats of exterior varnish on it then i'm going to put some thin foam on it and wrap it with leftover vinyl from my seats.

added LED courtesy lights to both sides of the console and finished all the wiring. Now to the seats hopefully in the next few days.

Re: 1997 Premier rebuild

Finished wrapping the corner box which will replace my front bench (along with a fishing chair). I wasn't sure how to wrap and inside corner, since logically it doesn't make sense, so I cut the edges somewhat close and then put shoe-goo glue so they wouldn't tear any further..... if someone can show me how to wrap and inside corner with vinyl that would be great!!!! I still have to wrap that center post with black felt and it will be a nice little cubby hole, not sure what will fit in there since its replacing my anchor storage bench.... any ideas?

I think that will about wrap this up!! let me know what you think, good bad in-different. This was a relatively small budget. The seats reupholstered were 850, new bimini made 250, carpet/glue 350 (26oz i believe), siding and parts about 200, stupid little parts here and there probably 200, hoping my wife doesn't see this pricelist..... priceless!

woodonglass: I was going to, but then when i look on amazon, it has terrible reviews.... either the stuff is garbage, or most people on amazon are mongoloids, which very well may be the case. It is the cheapest, so maybe I will give it a shot. i read somewhere that even If i use that, the toons will get tarnished like they are now and it will only take weeks to get back that way. Is that true?

I used dx533, bottle is marked "PPG chemfil aluminum cleaner"

Used a spray bottle, fill up 1/3 then top the rest off with water, put my mask on and spray it down.

Then with rubber gloves on, wipe the hull down, rinse, wipe down more, then dry with a rag to prevent streaks.

Repeated as needed till you get a nice uniform color :)

I bought the cleaner from an industrial paint supply shop locally

Re: 1997 Premier rebuild

Reading the reviews on that stuff, people that had issues sounds like the "issues" I had with dx533.

Problem is to not allow it to just dry off of the hull, work it with a rag (gloves are a must) and when rinsing it's every bit as important as the stuff is still working.

I got some pretty bad tiger stripes in my hull, but going over it again got me fixed up.

A gallon of the cleaner was about $30 if I recall correctly...

That's what a product like SharkHide is for. Once you get the aluminum where you like the look, from bright & shiny like a mirror to a nice even milky aluminum color, apply the SharkHide & it helps keep it looking like it did when you applied the SharkHide. Or wax on wax off grasshopper, that would certainly help keep the tarnish at bay.

Re: 1997 Premier rebuild

I had pretty good results with JJV's cleaner and scum remover. When I got the boat it hadn't been cleaned in a while, regular soap and pressure washer didn't do a whole lot. JJV stuff took residue off and made it look a whole lot better. The boat was painted so I have nothing to tell you on bare alum, but if it works like the stuff I used it would be worth a shot. Then go sharkhide or wax as was mentioned above.
