I'd get rid of the 6 year old gas no matter how much Stabil is in it.

Welcome 273DC!

The FAQ pretty much says it all and is an excellent guide to getting the engine water ready again. Don't know there is much more to add unless you have a specific question.

And yeah! What alden said!.... :)

thank you for the welcome and the fast responses.

basically, is there anything in particular that applies to my specific engine... i do not have a service manual yet but will purchase one. is it a relatively easy task to get this thing going again? should i drain/flush the tank and just fire it up to see if it will run first? if not, are there other steps i should do (beyond the FAQ) before?

thanks again.

if you can get to the fuel gauge sending unit, you can open it, and use a hose small enough to go thru the stearn drain hole and siphon it. do you know anyone you can borrow a 6 gallon tank from.

On draining the fuel. You should be able to disconnect the fuel line from the motor, take the fitting off and use the primer bulb to get flow going and syphon it out that way if you get the recieving containers lower than the fuel tank in the boat.

To follow Rick's lead - - See if you can run the fuel line through the drain hole at the bottom of the transom.

DC

Hopefully you can run the fuel line out through the drain plug hole in the back of the boat instead of going up over the gunwale(Better draining on a down hill slope). I don't know if there will be enough fuel line to reach a container that would be sitting on the ground behind the boat to catch the syphoned gas. Might want to pick up some extra fuel line and a barb to splice it into your existing fuel line. I think the reference to a 6 gallon tank was for testing purposes. In other words, hook up a portable 6 gallon tank with fresh premix in it and use that to find out if the motor will run well. But that is neither here nor there, as you have to get the fuel out of the built-in tank no matter what. I would buy a couple of 5 gallon containers to syphon the old fuel into. Of course, you will have to have a plan to get rid of it as it is draining(Kinda hard to get 32 gallons into two 5 gallon cans). I don't have an answer for that one. Maybe drain 10 gallons, pinch off the drain line and take it to your local waste recipient if they will take it. Might have to call around to find someone who will take it. I have run small quantities of older drained fuel in my car before. But nothing that old, so I don't want to suggest you do that without knowing the state of the fuel and the effect it might have....

disposing of the old fuel will be an issue. there is a marina near by that may be able to assist me but i won't know about that until i get there. of course i could just tow with the tank full and get this done once it is back.

so far i have not been able to locate a manual for my engine (that i know of). all the ones i see are for 90/115 "SPL" whatever that is. will this work for mine as well?

Did you try ken cook for a Manual? And you might just want to bring it home full and deal with it there....(SPL =Special, meaning a stripped down version, with no VRO or Tilt and Trim, of a 115 usually designated as a 112 HP)

kencook.com/evinrudejohnsonmanuals/

rick - the site only goes to 1996. are the engines similar between the model years?
