my boat sat for two years before realizing this problem i changed the gas, fuel filter and diaghram fuel pump, the marina cleaned my carbs and adjusted the idle and chaged the starter.the motor at idle runs fine but in gear i cant get her past 3000rpms. marina suggests a bad stater ,all 4 plugs have a good spark the motor does not have that many hours and has always ran great.i did try to use the merqury carb cleaner before doing any of this work whle the boat was on the trailer with flush hooked up didnt realize that was not the directions then let it sit for a month. plese help for the bass will soon be blitzin

I agree that it is likely a stator issue.
They (marina) can test the stator, which should only take them a few minutes, and is 90% at diagnosing the stator.

FYI - the stator is divided into sections, each section generates current for a specific use. It appears the section dedicated to high engine rpm, has failed.

Craigf, What you are doing is called thread jacking. If we answer your ?'s the thread starter (aquatwinz) will not get his ?'s answered. Politeness requires you to start your own thread.
