1998 150 ficht

I have just purchased a 5.2 runabout with a 98 150 ficht,im yet to water test. It has a very rough idle and stalls after around 5-10secs i have read all the usual plugs/oil etc and have also ordered a diag kit. But the problem that has me stumped is when i checked all the plugs one looked basically new on the earth strap? I refited and ran it again and on removal was black!. Has anybody else had this problem. Im leaning towards injector fault?

im yet to water test.

This is not a good test as engine can run fine on 3 cylinders and rev up great.Are the spark plugs indexed correctly as they just cant be screwed in. Are they they the correct plug number?How old is fuel? The 97/98 had a separate ignition module that gave problems and is NLA as new and is a R/R item. Check the spark on that cylinder and the others with a spark gap tester.

Thanks for the reply, yes have been indexed and has new fuel, while i havnt water tested the previous owner did.spark on that cylinder is good same for the others.

I just called my local envirude dealer to see if thay had any xd50 oil in stock, they only had xd100 which apparently i must program the motor to run on ? I want to drain the oil and run fresh as i dont no whats in it now. Thanks

The XD100 oil can be used in that engine, but it's really expensive, when run at 50 to 1 ratios. It was created for the new ETEC engines, which can be programmed to run it at 100 to 1. Your FICHT computer does not have that feature, so it will consume oil at 50 to 1. When the dealer reprograms the ETEC for 100 to 1, the oil tank/lines are typically purged of any remaining oil prior to introducing the new XD100.

Thanks for the reply, over here the oil isnt cheap either way only a $10 difference $59 or $69
