I spent a good amount of time tracking down a couple of electrical shorts on my 98 whaler outrage, the first causing my trim not to work was corroded connections inside the coupling on the end of the wires that comes off of the trim motor and plugs into the relay board. The second short was the a corroded ignition wire (red) that also plugs into the same relay board. This short was causing the ignition switch to go through it's pre-start sequence while running.

In the process I removed and cleaned a lot of wires and make some learning curve mistakes along the way.
Mistake #1 - I removed and cleaned the positive lead to the starter, when I put the lead back on I did not put the non-conducting washer in the correct place and the starter was grounding out. After awhile I did figure out my mistake but I did crank the key multiple times and even had the live lead to the starter solenoid smoking.

Mistake #2 - I removed the cylinder shaped sensor that is mounted on the flywheel cover, when I remounted it I placed it right up against the flywheel. When I cranked the engine it popped out and cracked the flywheel cover. I have since replaced the flywheel cover and the sensor, I am am not clear how far the the sensor should be from the flywheel but it is currently approx 1 mil from the flywheel.

After fixing the shorts and running the engine, the engine alarmed sounded along with the check engine light. Also, the voltage gauge is maxing out.

I ran the diagnostic software on the engine yesterday, the codes I received are;

#34 - oil injector open circuit disconnected, damaged lead or broken wiring - check fuse for oil injector at power distribution center.

#47 - Air temperature Sensor Circuit Malfunction

#49 Air Temperature above expected range

I only had time to start dealing with 34, but i could not even locate the oil injector no less finding the fuse they are referring to, also I'm not sure what they are referring to as the power distribution center. I have not had a chance to start going through the manual but as always hoping someone with some experience to help me narrow this down to save some time.

As of now the engine still will not start, but she turns over no problem. Should I clear the codes and then try and start her again?

There are 2 types of codes:
Hard codes - means that the problems are still there.
Soft Codes: Have been registered, but not present anymore.
Hard codes must be fixed before you keep on, soft codes you may 'forget'.
Clean out codes, and if anyone left of the Hard Codes, fix!

Thanks, the hard code was #34. Can you help me identify where the oil injector sensor is located? There is a cylinder shaped pump on the port side of the engine near the top that has a sensor wire on the back of it, it appears that the fuel lines lead into this but wondering if the oil is injected here as well. Also, with the hard code existing in the system, will it prevent the engine from starting until it has been cleared?

The oil injector is located in front at the unit where all the oil-lines goes to each intake. It has a two wire plug connected to it.
Ether the plug is loose, or the oil-injector fuse in the fuse panel on stb side is defect. It might even be a connector failure in the big plug going into the ECM. With ign ON, it should be a positive 12V going into the injector, it is activated by grounding in the ECM. It should normally not prevent the engine from starting as it should be cleared and if still a problem only reoccurred after engine has started. If there from ign is put on, something is not as should be.

Are these the fuses that are in the same box that the tilt relays sit in? There is about 6 fuses in there and they all are good.

They may look good, but test them!
Next 'problem' might be that the fuse box itself may have a problem, I have changed some of them.
Out with the multimeter and test!

well considering that's where the other two faults were odds are you might be right, I will check and let you know and thanks for the input.
