My engine will start fine and sounds great/normal. After about 10-15 seconds it cuts off. I am having no fuel problems. There is fuel to all carburetors. I am leaning towards an electrical problem and have been told about a switch that starts out by directing current from the batteries during starting and then switches over to alternator after 10-15 seconds. If this sounds familiar or you have other ideas I would appreciate the advice.

Thanks!

Re: 1998 -175 Johnson ocean runner problem

Your motor has the quick start feature. Probably runs about 1000-1100 rpm at start up and then after 10-15 seconds (less when warm - More when cold) will kick down to appx 750 rpm. This is simply an ignition timing change. If your motor doesn't stay running, odds are there is a fuel or weak spark issue. Sometimes "cold hearted" motors need a bump or two of the primer during initial startup to continue idling. Give that a shot first and see if she'll continue running.
Good Luck
PS If this is a FICHT, disregard and find a qualified BRP tech to address this problem.
