I have been having a few problems I have been living with. They may be related.

1. When in gear, generally after running for a while, when I slip the shifter into neutral to dock the engine it will shut off. In the same instance going from neutral into gear I will only get limited RPM’s no mater how high the throttle is pushed. The engine also takes on a lower sounding frequency, very throaty. By pulling back to neutral and then back into gear rapidly the engine will begin to work properly.
2. As of Saturday I have a new problem. I was Gone for almost a month on AT with the Navy. The boat sat in the back yard as usual through all the wet and blowing weather from the hurricanes that came through. We were going to take the boat out and once putting it in the water it started fine and idled well. However when it was put into gear it would shut off. After spending a few minutes on it I was able to keep it running, in gear, under load until approximatly 2000rpms then it would shut off.
Thanks for any help!

Try sqeezing the bulb when this occurs. Also try bumping the primer to see if that helps. If either helps, sounds like a fuel restriction or weak fuel pump or air leak. Stalling going out of gear is often the shift interrupt switch adjustment.
Good luck

My cash is on shift interrupter, or a binding or misadjusted lower shift cable (if there is such a thing on an outboard) causing the interrupter to remain active after the shift is complete.
