Boat is on the trailer with motor all the way down, went outside this morning and the motor is all the way up ? (1998 Yamaha 225 OX 66)

Now the power trim does not work, just hear a clicking noise will not go up or down.

what caused it to go up all by itself?

what do you think is wrong ?

thank you

It's probably one of the trim switches shorting out or going out all together. Was it raining or could the switch have gotten wet some other way? I have seen this happen to several people. If it stuck on and stayed on while you were away from it, it could have burned your trim motor up too.

Well that's good news....when you say solenoid, do you mean relays? On a johnson there are two, one for up and one for down.

A relay is a switch that is triggered by another switch, the latter being your switch at the throttle. The idea is to have a heavier duty switch with bigger gauge wire actually switching ON/OFF the trim motor, not the wire and switch at the throttle. They are cool.

Yes Relay

from now on when the boat is not in use I will shut the power off with my Battery switch

Good idea to keep power off. I have been fishing several times in heavy rain when all of the sudden the motor trims up on it's own. That was probably the problem. Check the wires and waterproof them as best you can.

I've seen the bow trim switch on a Ranger, short out, trim the motor up, continue to run, burning all the wiring it was in contact to from bow to stern, right up to the trim motor. It doesn't always take a rainy day to cause this.
