No change in amps when I throttle up. Meter shows drawing 1.4 amps at idle and at 3/4 throttle. Battery showing 12.40 volts running or not. Should I replace rectifier ? stator ?

See if you have 12v on purple wire at rectifier when key is turned to on......

Didn't think to look at the tach. Will do that tomorrow as well as check for voltage from the rectifier. Thanks

I was looking at the wiring diagram for my motor trying to prep for my troubleshooting tomorrow and I noticed the aforementioned purple wire goes to the ignition switch (12V power source?), and also the VRO. I mention this because I recently had a new VRO pump installed. Is there any correlation here?

Sorry for the delayed response....family duties got in the way. Anyhow took the boat out for the season and low and behold the boat seemed to be charging. Volt meter was showing charge . I have a Heart Interface Link 20 battery gauge which indicated it was charging at a rate of about 6 amps which I thought was a bit low. The tachometer is operating fine. I did not check the purple wire at the rectifier since the motor did seem to be charging although I am not sure 6 amps is all it should be putting out! Voltage on that meter showed 14.4 at close to full throttle. Any thoughts?

If your unit is wired per the manual, you're not looking at the amperage being supplied from the motor. Your looking at amperage draw off the battery.

''If your unit is wired per the manual, you're not looking at the amperage being supplied from the motor. Your looking at amperage draw off the battery."

Amperage draw shows up as a negative on the meter. This is showing amps going back to the battery.

That motor is rated at 35 amp output.

Current draw is regulated by the battery. A fully charged battery will draw much less than a discharged one.
