Background to below - did a sea trial and boat ran well went back to dealer to check boat during the loan closing and port engine wouldn't start. Dealer said boat has a bad relay??? read on - this is a bummer as the boat ran great!

Just purchased a 1998 wellcraft 3000 martinique with twin 5.7 GS engines with 450 hours. Returning to my home port (about 1 ride from the purchase point) when I got to my dock the port engine would not shut off. I disengaged the emergency lanyard and still wouldn't shut off. I had to turn off the batterty switch to kill it. Now it will not start. I switch the iginition switch from starboard to port and still no start from the port side (the starboard side started up on the port igintion). Does anyone know what may be going on? Please help! I traded in a perfectly good boat for this one.

New starter fixed the problem...Dealer sent a mechanic to my boat on Sunday to correct this issue. So far my gamble is holding water - no pun intended - I purchased without a survey, based on my checkout - great as is deal - and dealer checkout and repair of all mechanical systems. Amazing enough everything works except a few gauges. I haven;t ran it since I brought it home - story above - so I hopeful nothing sewries develops! I was going for run last weekend abd discovered that my port side drive trim stopped working. I replaced the control switches (were sticking) and discovered the motor was bad. The dealer sold me an after market motor for $65 and I installed it myself - cramped area but I did it, as its a simple two bolt process.

I will add pictures later but this boat is way better than the Maxum 2800 SCR I trade it for (gave me what I paid for it twon years ago). So far I'm very pleases with the build quality. Things like a shower sump box - where my maxum drained into the bilgr - to the waste holding tank level monitor - where a maxum 3000 I looked at had none. The cabin layout is awesome and has my wife smiling from the aft sitting area/berth!

Oh, thought I had a AC problem because the AC would trip off after a few minutes. Dealer said it was due to low voltage and it was but I discovered why. At first I thought it was my first repercussion for not doing the survey! I started to get down on my decision but remembered my plan - look for major issues during sea trial and fix problems as they pop up - on a whim I simply sanded the shore outlet prongs applied di-electric gease and problem was solved! Not just a whim as I noticed the volt readings drop below 110 whenever a load was applied and I figured it was a connection issue - It was luck that I was correct!

I plan on posting my story good or bad as the whole survey decision was a gamble not usually recommended - once again deal was as is witbh all mechanical system in working order.
