I replaced the controls on my 21 foot Seaway, everything works fine for about six cycles of the key starting and stopping along with testing the kill switch. Somewhere around 5 or 6 start and stop cycles the fuse under the cowling at the main wire harness connector blows. Replaced it once with the same size fuse and it popped again same way. It is only a 4 amp fuse is that the right size? Its hard to find info on it but what I have seen it seems that fuse should be a 20 or 25 amp. What does this wire do axactly?

My '98 Johnny 150HPV6 uses a 20A fuse. I would expect your motor to use the same.

It also sounds like you have a short somewhere. Look for melted wires where the boat harness plugs into the engine harness, and under the dashboard where wires power the trim gauge and tachometer. If not there, and fuse still blows, you will need to disassemble the controls and look for bare wires.

Its a really short fuse right? Maybe 1/2" long overall maybe a little smaller

Do you know what that wire job is what does it actually do I know it turns off all power to the ignition but why from the engine would it do that? What else does it power do you know

It supplies 12 volts to the key.----That 12 volts is used to activate starter solenoid.----Activate primer solenoid valve.----And any instrument relating to the motor.

Power to the ign keyswitch powers trim gauges, fuel gauges, and anything else someone has hooked up. I powered stereos, lights etc, at one time in my boating career.

Engine wiring harness is not to be used to provide 12 volts for engine only.
