I am having the following issue...... just changed my ignition switch which is located in the dash. When I go to start the engine.........its starts turning over as soon as I get to the first click. I don't even have to turn it all the way over. It even starts with out the kill switch engaged. Also when on the lake the boat has started as soon as I put it neutral while the key is still turned to the on position. Is this normal.... Any help would be much appreciated..

Thanks.

What key switch did you use?----What instructions and wiring diagram did you follow?----You risk major damage to Expensive parts.----Disconnect battery and read up on this.

No, it is not normal. What was it doing before the switch was changed and is it the correct switch?

The switched I replaced it with was original parts, Got it at a North Texas Marine. I used the current wiring from the old switch.

It was doing the same thing. Thought it was in the switch. The switch was ordered from marine dealer and part number was for m motor. So assume it is the right switch.

Might start with the battery -- polarity correct? Check solenoid -- marine solenoid or automotive (latter is grounded differently).

Does the starter spin continuously, when the engine is running? I would expect it would.

Look for melted wiring, on the engine harness. Wires can melt and connect to each other on that motor. I am expecting the purple wire is somehow connected to the yellow/red wire.

Yes the starter might be spinning all the time.----Hard to see because the starter is not exposed on these units.
