It depends on how bad the waterpump housing is pitted, you may need to replace the impeller only or you may have to replace the waterpump housing also, a picture of the housing would help answer your question.

Thermostat may be stuck so water isn't flowing thru the engine.

Re: 1998 Force 120 outboard

Maxum, I have a problem trying to put the lower unit back together. due to the shifting shaft not lining up . when I put it back, didnt realize I never have it lined up to the sleeve, and it cracked and opened the hole to a diameter about 1 inch.that hole I meant is the one where the shaft going into the lower unit., but still couldnt lined up , so what is the best trick to get the bottom shaft into the sleeve..I did read up on 1 other post, but they didnt show how to put the shaft back...

You'll have to take a picture of what you have so we can help you get your lower unit reatached to the motor. Show the part that is damaged if you can also.

Maxum, thanks once again for helping me, here are the picts, hoped that i't's not too blur for you. and please tell me what position that I needed to have the shift on forward/neutral/or reverse.... it's kind a hard trying to line up the splind to the sleeve, I did have someone moving the shift stick slowly trying to find the right groove also, but hopefully because I didnt try hard enough and not a trick that needed to be done to get it together.

It's one of those deals where you just have to keep trying until you get the driveshaft splines to fall into place. It's frustrating because the lower unit get's heavy after awhile.

Hello did you try to rotate the fly wheel or the prop a bit at the same time? you need some one to help you. removeing the pluges will make it easer to rotate good luck

Your pictures didn't work so I didn't see the hole your talking about! Click a reply icon, use Go Advanced and click on the Paperclip, Browse, pick your picture, click upload to load your picture's so we can see the hole you made. Then we can give a possible answer to your question.

I dont see a go advance anywhere on the post reply Maxum, and thanx Kandil...the gear shift shaft is the problem I am having, cuz it dont lined up to the grooves collar from the shaft coming down from the top, but as far as the drive shaft. it goes up easy like you said to rotate the flywheel..

Re: 1998 Force 120 outboard

Hello to all again. just wanted to thanks all that has helped me through this problem that I have had..I have been able to get it going again..I just wanted to post this so any one out there have a problem same as mine later..
the reason that the sleeve doesnt go into place because from the get go when I put the lower unit back together without lining the topgear shift shaft to the lower unit gear shift shaft..so it stripped a little bit, and widen (broke)
the hole..I took it back out and check why it doesnt go back in place..and I cleaned it. and everything went back in. tightened all the nuts started the engine, I think I needed to rebuilt the carb too. that'll get later but the water pee hole doesnt flow like it supposed to be.Thanks again Maxum for the help
