under the reservoir is oil. drain the system as best you can and have a big bucket handy. the parker hanafin EHA designs love to spray oil when you take them apart. If you aren't careful you will end up with oil stains up to 20ft away.

All trim motors look about the same. It is hard to tell the difference when you hold them in your hand - much less from a picture. It is the quality of materials and construction methods. Put a magnet on a through bolt and see if it is stainless. Stainless steel won't stick to a magnet. If the through bolt is stainless then you did not have a $180 china special.

A good used Mercury trim motor is going to last longer than a brand new chinese. Original mercury trim motor should go 15-20 years if properly installed and maintained. Arco and Sierra should be at least 10 and I would not be surprised is closer to 15. There is another company - Mallory. I've never taken one of their P/H Oildyne replacements apart so I can't say - but their Prestolite replacements for Chrysler/OMC were top notch.

Im going Chinese Im not paying for a part for this boat that cost probably more than the boat costs, the through bolts are stainless, it must have been replaced before, the block paint is all chippped away, I feel fine using a China P.O.S.

I know how to get the motor down in an emergency and if I cant get the motor up then, who cares, I go in deep enough water, I was even able to trailer the boat with the motor all the way down

Thank for you help, gonna remove the old one right now, I'll post a photo.

And I have sea tow on speed dial.....Better off spending the extra $150 on that.
Here they are in action

you'll need to order a drive shaft kit from a mercury dealer because this one does not have a gasket. You'll be on your third or fourth chinese motor before the OEM version breaks.

Here is an ARCO. Another vastly superior product to the chinese. I almost set myself up to resell the chinese motors. Then I started seeing them a year or two later. I just can't do it. It's really profitable because boat owners see the price and get excited. But I just can't bring myself to sell stuff that keeps breaking. In order to have the same cost per year as a $250 arco the chinese motor would need to be priced at $100 or less. To me, it is like putting sawdust in the transmission so that I could sell a car. I just won't do it.
