Re: 1998 Force 90hp motor flooding need HELP

Carb P/N 838308 is the top carburetor for a 1996 - 1997 Force mercury 90HP motor. Uses the same needle valve as carbs P/N 854449, 854450 on top and bottom position on your motor.

Try removing or pinching off the fuel enrichment line going the middle carb. when you squeeze the primer bulb.

I guess you meant the 828308 and I saw where it i used on the 1997 so would it be the right one that needs to be in the middle on my 1998?

Im not sure what the fuel enrichment line is but Im guessing it is the line that comes out of the small brass looking canister beside the carbs. If so there are two lines one line comes out of the canister and into the block and the other line comes out of the canister into the bowl on the top carb not middle.

I have taken some pictures of my motor setup and about to post them.

Make sure the fuel bowl vent is not plugged. Yours may not be in the same position as the picture, but it has to have one. If the vent is plugged, the needle valve will not operate properly due to excessive pressure in the fuel bowl. Usually when the fuel bowl gets too full, the gas will flow out of the vent, not the throat of the carb.

See picture below.

Ok I will check that tomorrow.

Check the viton tip of the needle, if the mechanic pressed down on the float to set the float height he could have pressed a ring' into the viton at the sealing surface and ruined the tip.

You will have to look very closely with a magnifying glass, or maybe drag a finger nail very lightly over the surface to feel for ANY disturbance, if so replace the needle, again.

Re: 1998 Force 90hp motor flooding need HELP

Well I finally figured out what the heck was going on:D When I told yall fuel was flowing out the middle carb I guess I couldnt tell exactly where it was pouring out when I would squeeze the primer bulb. I thought it was coming from in the center of the throat of the middle carb up from the bowl.

The fuel was actually coming from inside the intake manifold and then flowing into the center carb throat. The problem is I guess the choke is stuck full open and flowing into the intake manifold then finding its way to the backside of the middle carb then also coming forward.

All I did was squeeze off the line where the choke pulls fuel out of the top carb and this stopped my fuel flow problem.

So if anyone has a bad flooding problem check the choke really good.

The small brass looking canister by the carbs. (fuel enrichment valve) is a solenoid type valve. Sounds like the plunger for the valve is stuck in the open position. You may be able to free it up by taking some carburetor cleaner and spraying it into either the inlet or outlet of the valve while working the choke switch (pushing ignition key in). Replacements valves are available...for around $90 ! I've seen them used on line for much cheaper though.

Sent you a PM.
