My gear case oil was a milk shake when I drained her at the end of last season. I have a breach at one of the seals, I was hoping someone could point me to a thread on here discussing replacing gear case seals...
Ok, so I did an air test by connecting my air compressor line to the gear case oil fill attachment with 10 psi. And the breach is the top seal around the drive shaft, so my need for assistance has been narrowed down to changing out this seal.
Look at lower water pump kits for you motor. Most will have the driveshaft seals. For example, a kit like this has the oils seal. Disclaimer - No idea if this is for you motor.
I replaced the shaft bearing carrier which came with the seals already installed successfully. Unfortunately I stripped out the threads in the lower unit where one of the water pump housing bolts goes. Does anybody have any tips on how I can fix this?
