I have a 1998 Jet 140 that has fast beep driving me nuts. Already unhooked the oil tank sensor, both temp sensors, checked the low oil alarm module on the motor.....nothing changed, I am about to dive into the control box. Mercs are a rarity around here. Who has the best manuals......Seloc or ??

The horn may be in the control box or will be attached to the wiring harness near the control or under the dash. The wires to the switch are purple for switched 12v (from the ignition switch in any position other than OFF) and tan for the grounding source coming in on the tan or tan/lt blue stripe wire. On the Commander 2000 remote's 8 pin remote cabling used in regular boats it's pin 3. The horn only does what it's told. Anything grounding the tan/tan-lt blue stripe wire will light it off.

Funny on another site it seems that I and another poster just now have oil warning module problems and maybe you do too.....if your engine has a module and since it's modulating, you have one.

it has a module. i had a new one here and replaced it when nothing else worked. no change. the control box does the standard one beep when switching on, then once you hit the starter, the fast beep starts.....motor doesn't have to start, just the fast beep....i will start running down looking for oddball ground issues...

Well I just answered my question as to why I didn't get a warbled tone for oil......the 115 after 199x no longer has a module so either alarm will be solid. Went out and looked and there isn't one on my engine.

Turns out the drive gear on the crankshaft that turns the oil pump shaft isn't contacting the drive shaft for the oil pump. Yikes, motor teardown to change that...
