Hello it has been awhile since I have been on the board. I have now had this engine for over two years now and has been running great. I use xd100 and decarb and change plugs, fuel filters and so on. I still to this day have my check engine light come on occationaly. Everytime it is water in fuel and I know I do not. This is becoming very annoying. i have constantly cleared the code but keeps coming back. Local mech does not have any ideas which I do not think he is qualified. I have all the manuals for this motor. Other than this my engine runs great and loves to run all out 5300 RPM!!!!

The 1998 FICHT uses a special fuel filter that has a screw-in sensor in the bottom of the filter. If over tightened, the sensor can get a hairline crack in it and cause problems.

To be sure, remove the filter and hold upside down over a "Mason jar" and watch for water or residue or debris that could short out the sensor and make the CHECK ENGINE light come on.

If the fuel is clean, then you can leave the sensor unplugged, but check your fuel occasionally as water can ruin the injectors and the expensive electric fuel pump.

Thankyou seahorse. This has been going on for about a year now and I keep checking to see if there is any water in the filter and also check the sensor on the bottom. I can not see any junk or water when checked ever month. This is getting very frustrating but other than this it run great.

Are you getting any water thru you fuel vent when you clean your boat? In other words when you fill your gas tank the gas pushes out air. Where is your vent located? You could be getting water in it when you wash the boat.

Hello,

I have removed my 150 from storage and cleaned fuel lines and changed fitler and plugs and decarbed. Someone that had the same problem that I spoke with on boatsetup.com suggested I might have a harness wire that is bad if I unplug the wire from the bottom of the filter. So I unpluged the wire and fired my boat up and 10 minutes later the alarm went off. Went home and checked and got the water in fual code with the wire unpluged. What you guys suggest now

David
