Does anybody have any wiring diagrams for a 1999 Johnson 150hp FICHT ? Remote harness connector at motor would be fine also.

I just bought a fix up motor and ordered manual, but in the meantime I'd like to hear it run or at least sputter a little.

Thanks.

Val

You can view the remote wiring harness diagrams from any Johnson or Evinrude book from 1996 or later.

Even thought the connectors are different than '95 and earlier, the wiring colors are the same back to '73. There is no purple/white choke wire used in the FICHT, though.

Seahorse, you are a genius....

I have a manual for OMC to 1990 I'll look it up.

Thanks.

Val

Well,

after few hours trying...it didn't work.

Wire colors from manual are different. I was able to have a sputter once, then no spark at all. Pump pressurize, but motor has no life.

I will wait for manual to come in and see how it ends up.

What is the most common problem of these motors (Ocean Pro FICHT 150) ?

Val

Now you have me confused. How are the remote control wire colors different from a 1990 OMC to a 1999 OMC? The connectors are different, but the wiring color code is the same, except for no choke wire used on the FICHT.

Look at the EPA tag under the model number, what sparkplug does it say to use, and what is the complete model number?

Re: 1998 Johnson 150 FICHT wiring diagrams ?

Ok, this motor didn't came with controls. I am trying to start it without any harness. It has weak cylinders, it's a rebuild, but I just want to run it for a while. Model J150FSLECR, Ser. G 04491774, Family W1PXM0158220, Spark Plug XC12PEPB, and another sticker says it has been upgraded 5000542.

Apparently 2 cylinders have low compression, it should be just re-ring and probably rebore cylinders. I had a good deal on it ($ 800) from a liquidation. I never worked on a newer motor like this, definitely they have a lot of "stuff" under the hood....;-) but it shouldn't be very complicated.

Val

Thanks for the model number, you have a 1998 motor, not a '99. Be sure to order the correct factory manual.

Since the tag says to use the XC12PEP plugs, the cylinderheads have the latest deflector design and has been upgraded.

Re: 1998 Johnson 150 FICHT wiring diagrams ?

Reading through the forum, I am learning a lot more about it. Looks like I need software to read PGM, my heads have the set screws in it, so they've been replaced before. Motor doesn't have a good reputation, need to decarb very often.

Right now I can crank it, but no spark (I had it once). I connected fuel line, oil line in and out (just to a regular bottle) since I figure without oil it might not want to start. It's one of these things where impatience takes over....

You need 12V + at the purple wire (harness connector) for the motor to run and ground out the black/yellow to shut it off. Of course, + and - battery cables have to be hooked up. The yellow/red wire is to energize the starter solenoid.

Seahorse, you are a good help.

I assume I have to have oil primed at inlet before motor will start, right ?

Also do you think 10psi pressure on 1 cylinder won't let it start ? (I know it's bad...)

Any other issues to be aware to start motor ?

If you answer last questions, I will send you a new OMC Teleflex tachometer, tan with Lund Boats logo on it, just send your address to valv@means.net

Picture at www.kv-e.com/lundtachtan.jpg

You can choose with or without System Check (but this one will work only on OMC motors). It's a freebie for your help, no scam or else, just wanted to Thank you.

Val

prime the oil system to protect the motor, it will start without oil, though.

The low cylinders will make it run poorly, but the motor should fire up.

If it doesn't start up, wait for the service manual and go thru the troubleshooting procedures and tests. For injector or ECU problems, contact DFI Technologies. www.dfitechnologies.com

Thanks for the tach offer but I'm in this not for personal gain, but for personal satisfaction. Donate it to someone who needs it. Thank you.

Seahorse you are very nice, I didn't mean to bribe you, I am a liquidator and I have 12 cases of these gauges, shipping one wouldn't be any problem.

I'll wait for manual tomorrow and will start tear down.

Just one more question, how well do you think this motor will overall run ? I am replacing my old Merc 140, which has been very reliable, but now I need to sell before it won't be.

Val
