i have a 1998 johnson 150 and with current set up i can only get 5000 rpm's in summer heat with normal load, this is my first omc, and I would like to know if i prop it to spin at 5500 will it last longer, or am I ok??

As far as I can see your WOT range is 48-5300 so 5000 is very OK. Your setup sounds to be close to optimal, so if you're happy with it's performance for your use, you should keep everything as is.

Your top rpm on that motor should be between 5000 and 5500, per the owners manual. With the heat and humidity of summer, the motor may be 1 to 200 rpm lower than on a 70 degree day. If you want a better 'hole shot' or better performance in a following sea, use the next lower pitched prop.

What is the top rpm with a full gas tank and the normal number of people aboard with all their gear? Does it get on plane quick enough for you?
