1998 johnson 200 hp oceanrunner thumping at high rpms

Hello all, I'm having an issue with my engine thumping almost like its kickong out of gear at high rpms. I'm fearing the worst with the clutch dogs being shot. I just put a brand new prop on and have the same problem. It's weird though because I just did the water pump and now this problem is ocuring. Any suggestions would be appreciated

No doubt, you turned the shift rod out of adjustment.... the shift rod adjustment is critical. Unfortunately I retired before your engine was manufactured so another member will need to jump in here with that bit of information.
