I am told that there is a plastic drive gear on the crank that runs the oil pump and that it is common for them to strip out. I am getting an oil system warning alarm but have confirmed that the alarm is false and that the oiler is working properly. Now I am faced with replacing a $100.00 sensor in order repair the warning system on my motor. The service guy says that he sees the crank gear for the pump strip out frequently and recommends to abandon the oiling system and put the oil directly in the tank at 50:1. Since the motor is 12 years old I might consider this even though it is a pain in the rear to add oil to the tank. What would you do? If I can somehow check the gear and it looks good should I go with it? Thanks, Kevin
