Engine boggs out when I try to pull the boat onto the trailer. Runs fine when at top end but it is getting where it doesn't want to idle and when ever I try to pull it onto the trailer it will bogg down and stall. It is on a 1998 Nitro Savage 998 (rated for 200hp). Bought boat and motor about 8 months ago, was running good now acting up any ideas?

Re: 1998 Mercury EFI,

try pummping the primer bulb immediatly prior to attepting to power it up, if it works fine that way the rebuilt the lift pump.
they tend to get weak and after periods of extended idling the vapor seperator gets low and at throttle up it sucks the seperator dry and the engine bogs until the fuel pump can catch up.
its a faily commonn problem with the square and the oblong merc fuel pumps.
kit is 26 dollars or so and takes 20 min to install.

Re: 1998 Mercury EFI,

Thanks for the idea. But wondering after reading several other reports doe you think that the motor needs to be de-carbonized?

Re: 1998 Mercury EFI,

Your problem is most likely what rodbolt described and probably has nothing to due with carbon buildup but if you haven't ever done a decarb it's about time.
