Is there any way to test if the oil pump is functioning? According to service manual,it is electrical. Also, where is the sensor that trips horn, indicating it is not functioning, located?

Re: 1998 Mercury Optimax 150hp oil pump

im no mechanic and i was wondering if mine worked, so what i did was i mixed 2 stroke oil with my gas, 40 to 1, and went for a trip, after about 2 hours of high and low speeds i checked my oil tank to see how much it went down, and it appears to be working, maybe not the best way to test, but at least i knew it was burning the oil, then i changed the plugs since i ran it with extra oil for a day and put new gas in without oil.

So for the optimax, a ratio of 40 to 1 wouldn't hurt? Also since the oil is already mixed with the gas, why would oil be put in via oil pump? Doesn't the motor some how measure how much it needs? If there is already oil in the gas then I assume it wouldn't put any oil in. Not sure how it all works so forgive my ignorance.
