Was wondering if any of you guys could point me in the right direction on this thing.

We bought this '98 Sea Rayder today

We knew up front it needed a motor, seller was supposed to have a used one found for $500, but now we can't track it down of course.

So basically looking for a used motor for this thing and looking for some insight from anyone here.

Anyone know any other forums that might be more generalized as to boats like this?

And any advice from you guys here is more that welcomed!

Thanks,

4,6 or 8 cylinder?
Outboard?
In other words, what are you looking for.

It's an inboard with a jet pump on it. 175 horse V6

What are the odds I can get this moved back to the right forum?

Good luck on finding anything used, this is a 2.5 V-6 outboard engine with a differnt crank, carbs and electrical(switcboxes). If you have the original engine you could buy a outboard engine and swap the parts....

You might be out of luck. I have a friend who is looking for the same motor and it priced for $1999.95 used and $2495.00 rebuilt. I would ask for your money back unless he produce a good running motor for $500.00 or unless the boat was free.

Do you remember where you found a used one? I called all of the local boat repair places in the area, and all their prices were $4k rebuilt. I also wonder if the price is much higher due to the season. We were discussing if it would be cheaper in the winter...The $2k used wouldn't be bad, just haven't been able to find any for that price.

Thanks for yalls input!!!

Thanks, I think we've seen them through all our Google searches...

Here's a pic of the motor just so you guys can see what we're working with....

Pull it out and see what it needs to be repaired, If it needs a total rebuild you could still get out under $2500....

It threw a rod through the side of the block....

This motor is toast. Can't even use it for a core

Just because it throwed a rod doesnt make the whole engine toast. You could get a good used 175hp or 200hp block as both will work for around $700, swap your guts into replacement block if crank is ok, buy new rod, piston, rings ,bearings, carb kits and gaskets and still get out for under $3000

That's exactly what we're trying to do, the problem is tracking down a used motor. That's what I'm asking on here for is where are good places to be searching for one. Nothing on eBay or Craigslist so far that I've found.

You are not going to find a complete used engine for this boat as they sell as qiuck as they are posted. Try Dewayne at Texas machine, 972-602-4500 as they may have a block or could take your parts and build you a sport jet motor
