Hey Everybody,

My tow vehicle is a 1998 K1500 4 x 4 Suburban. I haven't driven it for about a year and a half as last year we didn't have a boat and I have a company vehicle that I use all the time for regular stuff.

So i get it started (replaced battery) but now i have no fan for the heat or a/c.

things i've done:

checked all fuses
replaced hi speed relay (i can hear it click when i turn it on high but motor does not come on)
replaced resistor (pain in the butt to get in....hopefully didn't bend the coils too much installing it)

i get power to the high speed relay but i'm not sure which wire to check on the blower motor itself.
looks to me like it's the purple one (no power there though).

Any thoughts or suggestions?

thanks,

Guy

"If you have power",
couple of taps with a rubber mallet to break the contacts free, or replace.

(If you an get your hands on the squirel cage/fan spin it)

One of my old trucks had the same problem after sitting all summer. Opened up the squirrel cage to find a huge nest (mice?), cleaned it out & started working.

so what should i tap with a rubber mallet? the fan itself?

when i replaced the resistor i stuck my hand down in the airbox and didn't feel any kind of nest in there....could quite reach the fan though....

does the purple wire provide power to the fan? the one that puts power to the high speed relay is orange....but i don't see any other wires going to the fan

Purple is power to the blower. The blower only has 2 wires going to it, (purple +, Black -) The orange wire you saw is from the high position on the fan switch.

Update

It turned out to be the motor itself.....now that i've taken the whole dash apart, to clean contacts on the switch, i just need to figure out how to get the rats nest of wiring that someone installed with the stereo back in.

thanks guys...appreciate the help
