I'll soon be talking to a mechanic about doing outdrive service on my 1998 Glastron GS 185 Ski & Fish. (Last done in 2006.) What things should I have in mind as we discuss what is to be done?

Thanks for your replies!

Change the gear lube, pull the outdrive and check for water or oil in the bellows, check engine alignment.
Remove prop and lube propshaft & reinstall with new cotterpin.
New seals and orings on everything taken apart.

If your boat was winterized properly, all this should have been done then instead of waiting for spring. If there was water in the gear lube or bellows when you put it away for the winter, it has the ability to do even more damage.

Don S.

Thanks for the info. I did wnterize in mid-October...changed gear lube, removed prop, lubed shaft, new cotter pin, etc., no sign of water in gear lube.

I did not remove lower unit for two reasons: Don't have proper tools, nor proper knowledge. I do know it is time to have it done.

Thanks again!
