I'm in the process of buying a boat with twin 250's. Its winterized and still in storage, so haven't got to run under load. I'm looking for some recommendations on what I should be looking out for on these motors, and what maintenance I should plan on doing this season. I'm aware of the havoc the fuel additives have created on boats, and plan to update the filters to racors. I've run a compression check and have good readings on all cylinders (120psi +/- 3 psi). I haven't been able to get the port engine to start, although I only tried for a couple minutes, and noted fuel and good spark at the plugs, so I'm assuming she'll start in a few weeks when I get the boat in. Thanks for any help guys...its greatly appreciated.

on that port motor, did you hear the fuel pump whine for 3 secs when you first turned the key on? if everything is working that motor can sit a year and light off.

Thanks for the reply Rodbolt...I didn't notice the fuel pump whine. The starboard engine started immediately. Still can't get the port motor to fire. Any ideas?

if the fuel pump wont turn on for 3 seconds at key on power it may be locked up. with the key on run a jumber from the blue wire to an engine ground and see if the pump will run, if it wont check for 12V key on power to the red fuel pump lead, if you have 12Vkey on at the pump and it wont turn on when you ground the blue lead the pump is locked up.<br /> sometimes you can get it unlocked other times ya cant.
