1999 135 mercury

I am looking to buy a 1999 mercury 135 2 stroke that comes on a 1999 larson 186sei (18ft) bowrider. My question is this: Is this one of those motors that shuts down a couple cylinders below a certain rpm? I will be using this boat primarily for watersports and im affraid that the holeshot will suffer if two or three of the six cylinders are not running right from the start, I have searched alot of threads on here trying to find it because Im pretty sure I have read it before, but I can find it. Any info that can be provided will be greatly appreciated. This forum has been great to me so far, it has helped me fix my dad 5.7L omc, and has steered me away from buying a 1999 150 evinrude FICHT. Thanks in advance.

I can't tell you specific of the 135 Merc but as a avid wake-boarder I can tell you an I/O is much better suited for water sports. Much more weight (good for wake-boarding) and torque as compared to outboard. Perhaps you need an outboard for some other reason, but just wanted to throw that out there.

I've got a 4cyl (2+2), if the 6 cyl is like it, there is no noticable lag when going from idle to WOT (if pulling a skier or something). My 4cyl opens the bottom 2 around 1000 rpm or so, it idles around 675rpm when in gear. Yours should idle between 600-700 when in gear. Short of it, I don't think you'll be able to notice any lag when pulling someone. You can try it out on the water by advancing the throttle slowly, you should be able to readily notice what RPM will cause all the throttles to open. If not on the water and not running, you can pull the cover and watch the throttle arm while someone slowly advances the throttle, you'll see when the throttle cam opens all the cyls. You might also be able to determine how many cyls are used at idle by seeing which ones have an idle timing screw on the carbs. The ones without one aren't used at idle.

To answer the question:
Nope, it hits on all six all the time.

Put a high five on it, and you'll have a neck snapping hole shot, and good control while you're pulling a load.

John, whats a high five and who makes them. How do they work compared to a regular S.S. 3 blade? Thanks Kendo.

Alright, Thanks for the info, I will look into trying some high five props, I read before someone saying a 4 blade is better then a five blade for smaller boats (Its only 18 feet), I'll try both if i Can.

If you like smooth running, holds in the turns, neck snapping hole shot, reliable performance at a very slight cost in top speed, high five is the way to go.
