Hello,
As the title says I have a 100$ question!!!

I own a 150 hp, blus water erie, carb made in 1999 fitted on Bayliner trophy model 2002FF. That engine was completely rebuilt in 2010 with new power head from Mercury BY PREVIOUS OWNER.
I have been using it since 2011 without any major issue but yesterday after about 5 hrs of running(18 total this season cuze of crapy summer) as I was crusing at 4300 rpm(27 mph) the engine suddenly stopped completely and the intermittent beeping alarm went on!!!! It was an intermitent beep beep beep beep without pause and it would keep going as long as the key was turned on.

Took it to the mechanic this AM and he was telling me he has a hard time to get it cuze apparently the alarms (continuous beep for over heating and intermitent for oil system) should not bring in any case the engine to shut down like it did. I restarted it 3 min later, was cranking normally but did not start. 20 minutes later it started like it is a new engine and I had it run for about 4 min . Had the boat towed but as I said I was able to put it on the trailer using it's own power.

I looked in my manuals and that intermitent alarm is associated with the injection oil system. I inspected the motor mounted oil tank and it's full. Remote oil tank almost ful with tight seal on the cap. The thing I don't get is that no where in any manuals you can find the situation that happened to me in terms of the engine shutting down at High speed. Apparently those engines don't have that type of safety. Someone knows anything about that????

Could it be possible that I accidently flipped the lanyard safety switch and following that rapid deceleration and shutting down of the engine the intermittent alarm went on because of that????
Please help me as I think my mechanic is not really going to be able to find the problem and I don't want to go and toast my engine for something stupid we did not know.
Thanks
Erick

Have a engine question. I have a 1992 trophy 2002 WA with a 150 hp EFI 2 stroke. I'm thinking of re-powering with a 4stroke. Was wondering if anyone knows what is the lowest recommended HP I could mount on my boat. It is 21 ft long.
