1999 200 efi Mercury Outboard

Replaced power head. The engine starts and idles then revs to 13-1500 rpms, then dies. It will restart right away but does the same thing. Any clues what to do??

I'm not sure about the fuel pump. It doesn't sound like it's running out of gas. I took the drain off the bottom and fuel ran out. How do I know if it is the fuel pump besides replacing it?

We did the powerhead replacement ourselves,

I'm thinking it might be electrical. Anyone else have this kind of issue?

Do you know the history of the replacement powerhead or when it last ran before your swap?

If the electric fuel pump has a problem it wlll idle fine then rev up as it runs out of fuel. Electric pump should run when engine runs.

complete, runnin' power head or just rotatin' assembly?

with Faz on this one.. could be tha 'lectric pump and/or tha mechanical pump... 'lectric for pressure but vst has ta stay full for it ta work.. mechanical keeps tha vst full....
