The last few times I have noticed that the engine is trimming all the way down while in storage for a few weeks, as I pull it up for ground/birth clearance before its put away. Any ideas? The manual release valve seems to be frozen, I can't move it. I can't physically move the engine trim by pushinng on it, and the hydrolics move it up and down ok(although slow). Also, does it have a tilt lock of some sort built in? How does this function?

Not very coherent there, are you saying it leaks down?

Loosen the release valve screw with an impact screwdriver, $25 from sears.

See if this factory service manual will cover your engine, there might have been no discernable changes from 98 to 99.
Or ask searayman if he has one for you.

Sorry .. yes it leaks all the way down slowly after a few weeks in dry storage. I guess I'll give the impact driver a shot. I'm sure being bounced on the forklift has done wonders for the hydrolics, thats why I was wondering about the trim lock. I may just get one of those trim rod tubes(or make one out of PVC) if there isn't a built in lock.

There should be two mechanical trim locks. One is on triple clamp and will pull down to engage transom clamp bracket. This holds motor about 1/2 way up. The other is a rotatable fitting on tilt tube (port side). This will lock motor all the way up.

You don't have a good pic of the 1st one..on the triple clamp do you? Or is it that pentagon shaped thing?

Got the screw loose..it wasn't as bad as I thought. Thinking about replacing it, and gasket etc.....is this as simple as pulling it and putting the new one in, or is there hydrolic fluid involved?

Your tilt/trim relief valve may be causing your leak dowm probs.

Turns out there was a very minor leak in one of the trim cylinders, not the tilt cylinder. The shop offered to rebuild all 3 for $800 bucks for some reason. So of course I just had them fill up the fluid, and its fine now. We'll see how bad it leaks.
