Thank you you any insight you can give. My new to me 1999 Chaparral 200LE has no pitot tube mount point screw holes anywhere on the hull or transum. And there is no pitot tube mounted that I can locate. There are no patched holes that might have been a mount point. I have not had the boat in the water. I have followed the speedometer's hollow tube to the rear of the boat in a bundle containing wires, cables, etc. to where the bundle goes down behind the motor & out of my sight. I do not see anything on the transum or I/O that seems to be a water pick up or pitot tube. Previous boat owner not available for me to ask questions. Is this boat's speed measured without a pitot tube? If it requires one, where would it have been mounted originally? There is a black plastic oval inserted into the bottom rear of the hull that i suspect is the inoperable depth finders pick up. Could that hull insert be part of the water pressure pickup for the speedometer? All guidance is appreciated.

Hi there, welcome to iboats!:)

What engine manufacturer do you have in your boat? Volvo or Mercruiser?

If Mercruiser, the pitot tube system is incorporated into the sterndrive/transom assembly while Volvo uses an external pitot tube.

Many thanks F.T. & Bill for your timely & beneficial replies. The motor is a Mercruiser Chevy 302 cc V8. When I get the boat from the shop I will be glad to see the pickup on front of the lower unit's foot. I am relieved to now have that elusive answer. You two did good. Bill, Thank you for your suggestion. I will comply.

Yup, mine is in the same place and currently plugged with wood from a submerged log at Lake of the Ozarks last year. One of those scheduled spring projects.....
