I should have mentioned the engine is Mercury.

Jim.. I looked at one of those with an Evinrude hangin' out back in about 1998 or so... Looked like a pretty fair boat... (I'm very pickey.)

If I'd of had the money at the time and if it would have done well in a test drive, I would most likely have bought it... Just could'nt take the "EZ" monthly payments at the time..

Most important part is to get it wet and drive it before you lay the cash on the barrelhead...

In the morning, snapperbait.

Not sure about the haggling, though. The seller is both a retired cop and a used car salesman.

I've searched all over for the boat, but only find them used. One OSHA report showed they were acquired by Luton Marine, but I can't find them either.

Thanks for the reply.

Re: 1999 EAGLE PRO 150 EFI - Advice?

Folks -

I ran this boat this afternoon. Some jerk had it previously (repossessed). Probably 40 holes from screws; one 2" hole in the aft deck; front seat mount (unnecessary); corner cut off the anchor locker; smaller hatch installed in the anchor locker hatch, poling platform removed violently, etc.

It also ran strong, with very little spray. Trailers and loads easily, plenty of power to pull my daughter and seven of her closest friends skiing.

I saw 51 MPH GPS @ 5100 on the 150 EFI Merc. I don't know how to trim yet; the balance between two trim tabs and the motor have me baffled. I suppose with plenty of practice I can learn, but a joystick is more intuitive than four buttons.

There were several vibration points in the RPM spectrum. Is this normal?

I'm really interested in this boat; it meets both of my needs. I want to return to fishing Chokoloskee and take my daughter skiing.

I would like to get a marine mechanic to look it over and quote the fixes, then negotiate with the owner. Is this reasonable?

Any advice will be appreciated!

Jim@KSC,

I am Thomas and I work for Bennett Marine in the Client Service department.

It sound likes you have experince with our Single Lever Control (VC1000, joystick type), which is very intuitive but the Racing Type Control (RT1000) can be just as easy with a little information! If you visualize the Racing Type Control like an above shot of your boat, it will make better sense in its operation. Say you are running along and you feel the bow is high, you would like to “push down” on the bow with your hand. So to make this happen, you must press on both top buttons of the Racing Type Control to bring the bow down. To achieve this effect both trim tabs extend into the water and “push up” or raise the stern of your boat because of the upward pressure created by the water flow under the tabs. If you have a PORT BOW high, you will want to “push down” on that side of the bow. So, you press the top port side button on the Racing Type Control to put it down. To achieve this effect the STARBOARD tab is extended into the water and “lifts” the STARBOARD STERN there by lowering the PORT BOW. I hope this information helps you to better understand how the Racing Type Control is operated.

If not, please don't hesitate to contact me at trimtabs@earthlink.net.

Sincerely,
MJ Thomas
Bennett Marine, Inc.
Client Services
www.bennetttrimtabs.com

It does help, Tabman II!

Now I understand why pushing the starboard button triggers the port tab. It's sort of like an X effect.

When on the water, I had the seller hit the buttons while I watched the tabs. We deduced it was wired backwards, when, in reality, it's wired for the boat during operation.

I still think I'd like the stick, though. I looked at the Bennett VC1000 on your site. If I buy the boat, I may swap it. I assume each switch is momentary-on.

My experience really came from my daughter's X-Box.
