I have what is supposed to be a 1999 115 hp evinrude. The model number was damaged (?) and cannot be read. Is there a way of confirming year by the serial number only? Ser. # G03777598. If anyone can help, it would really be appreciated. Also, does anyone have info on the first year the 115's came out with OIS? Thanks.

That number is not showing up. Where did you get te number from? Guessing I would say the first year for the OIS on the 115 was 1996ish.

Re: 1999 evinrude 115 hp

Thanks for the replies. That number is stamped below the partial model # as a serial #. All I can make out on the Model # is E115EL..on the serial # after the "G" is an O..it almost looks like a D here. There is also a space between the "G" and the rest of the numbers so it reads G 03777598. I bought a 1990 1801 Parker CC, weighs 1940 dry and had a 1990 Johnson 150 on the back that was hurting. So I got rid of it and picked up this 115 figuring it would push it at 34mph if I needed it and could cruise around 25 which is fine by me...I fish 99% of the time and stay within 10 miles or so out here in Long Island, NY. It's not an OceanPro..but is the V4 60 degree loop charged carbed motor, which most guys think is dependable. It's also dark blue, where someone told me the 99's were white. I got this 115 for $1200 and had 140# of compression on all cylinders so figured I can't go wrong. It was moored and needs a paint job, but I dont mind the work, just want to know what I'm working with. Thanks again..you guys have a lot of good info.

Im assuming you are getting that number from the stern bracket. Have you searched the motor for a welch plug with the model number on it? Will probably be on the top rear of the motor, about the size of a quarter? Too bad you have the first half of the model number. A pic would help identify it as well, they are worth a thousand words as they say.

Just where you said it would be...484399...does the 99 stand for what I think it does? Thanks.

That is not the model number. Yours will look something like E115ELEEA. Could you also post a pic?

484399 is the part number for a replacement engine (RPH).

Just another thought you guys might have knowelge of. Someone wrote that evinrudes with the red harness plug means it's a 95 or older. Any ideas on that? Thanks.

Yes, the red cannon plug was from 95 & earlier. All 60* carb'd motors came with optical ignitions. The first 60* 90 & 115 was in 95.

Re: 1999 evinrude 115 hp

Thanks Dhadley...could I ask you another question(or anyone else)....some motors run with higher compression than others...if this is a 95....I'm getting 125 on all cylinders. Does that sound ball park to you? I know the important thing is that the cylinders are within 6-8 lbs or so of each other, but I thought this would be about 140#. Thanks again.

Re: 1999 evinrude 115 hp

You're fine at that compression. You want them all to be within 15 lbs. Static compression has a lot to do with port timing and port area, especially the exhaust port configuration. Don't get real hung up on numbers, look for a difference.
