1999 evinrude 115hp ficht bogging down

i just bought this boat and 2nd time out it want run over 1800 rpm and seems to miss like it on rev limiter. I take it in and they change high and low fuel pumps costing me 1,600.00 and they cant get it to work he gives me al kinds of excuses why he hasnt givin the boat back because it wasnt running right but he didnt tell me that. finally after two weeks he states it was just a loose ground and the fuel pumps and i get the boat back. i take it out and about an hour into the run it starts again. it would just come down to 1800 or so and spit sputter and surge up and down in rpm and then it wouldnt go over 1800 again. so now im stuck he has the boat again and no one knows why it doesnt run, please help with any imput. this boat is sinking me! please reply

if it runs good for a while then misses have you checked, changed your thermostats, water pump?

Boy, do you need a new mechanic! One that can properly diagnose before changing very expensive parts. The DI motors require special training to properly works on and a systems mentality. You're not going to get useful help on the internet for this one. BTW, the early Ficht V-4's were very troublesome motors and you may have trouble finding a mechanic to work on it.

he changed both high and low side fuel pumps and checked most everything on the motor it shows no codes. i called two other marinas and they say its electrical somewhere. good compresion fire voltage temp etc. it will just come off plane and jerk a little and stay at around 1800rpm it also would then just take off right out ot the slow down and then spit and sputter and slow baack down to the 1800 rpm? im confused and so is the marina

All they can tell you after $1600 is "it's electrical somewhere"? I'd have blood spurting out of my eyes and wouldn't be able to speak!

BTW, have they done any tests on the EMM?

I agree with you on a new mechanic.
I just bought the boat about a month ago and the boat would run 45 mph trimmed when i got it as it showed on my first run. after he fixed it the first time it would only go 34mph trimmed on glassy water.
I want him to diagnose and fix what he has started though since he cost me so much money for the wrong things. I own a pool buisness and i do service and repair and if we mess up i fix it at no charge so im giving this company the benefit of the doubt to fix his mistake and he knows i know he took a shot in the dark and didnt fix it. hes lied over and over to me about what took so long to fix it the first time. i just dont want to start over with somone else and eat 1,600.00 if i can help it. Thank you for any imput that anyone has

I'm not trying to flog a dead horse.....but when you say your mechanic "lied over and over" I fourth the new mechanic idea.

well i know he doesnt want to admit he he messed up and eat the 1600.00 just like i dont want to eat it but im not sure how else to handle it without throwing money away on someone els eat this point thats why im doing some research in order tio maybe call him out on it you know. hes throwing all these terms that i dont understand about the motor to cover himself . Also im huge bulldog fan go dawgs

EMM = engine management computer.

chance, I am in the same boat,.... kinda, my 98 115hp FICHT quit on me this weekend, I am trying to diagnose myself, with help from forum before I take into mechanic. I know very little about motors but have the shop manuals which helps some. If you want to order them shoot me a private message and I can tell you where I got them, thats all I can do to help. go dawgs!!

uga THANKS FOR THE INFO. i WAS SUPPOSE TO GET A CALL TODAY FROM THE MARINE PLACE ABOUT MY BOAT BUT NOTHING SO IT CAN'T BE TO GOOD. iF I RUN ACROSS THE PROBLEM UGA I'LL LET YOU KNOW. THER WAS AN ARTICLE ON HERE FROM 2007 WHERE A GUY HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM I DID BUT I DONT SEE WHERE ANYONE GOAVE HIM A RESPONSE AND IM NOT ABLE TO REACH HIM BY HIS ACOOUNT NAME.
