1999 Evinrude 225 HELP

[ah heck]

While trolling for tuna the motor just died.6 Hrs later vessel assist puts us on the trailer at 1:30 AM. I thought it was the fuel but it seems to have fuel to the motor. While waiting for the tow, I got it to started in nuteral but could not keep it running, IT was smoking like crazy and running really ruff than dies. When i got home I changed the plugs and fuel filters but it still will not start. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

Have you checked the compression or tested spark? Did it overheat? Anything abnormal happen right before? WHen were the carbs last rebuilt?

It has spark, it did not overheat, it is fuel injected, the only abnormal thing that happened right before it died is that it sputtered.

If you pump the bulb while it's dying, will it start to run?

sounds like it could be a coil or power pack, do you have a manual for that motor?

Did you clean the plugs off reinstall and see if it starts? If it starts doesn't smoke and sputter, and dies soon after - power pack. They usually need to be replaced every 300 hours or so. I'm thinking that it may be smoking alot because of all the oil and fuel injected in attempted startups.

put new plugs and filters in. have 150#s of compression and spark but will not start?????
