Have a 1999 johnson 115 that has ran bad for close to a year. It has idles rough up to 2000rpm then seems to smooth out . seems to run really well between 3000-4000 rpm but may have an miss every once in awhile or may not. seems if I bump it on up to 5000rpm it wants to miss even more, but its not a consistent miss its random. Here is what I have done so far. New Champion Plugs new fuel water separator, compression test is 110psi on all cylinders ,Also the Carbs were leaking fuel due to cracked and warped float bowls"plastic". I pulled them and rebuilt them and replaced the bowls . Other than not leaking fuel anymore it still runs the same. Ive heard people talking about the optical eye or the power pack is a possibility for a miss,But dont want to keep putting new parts on it and it not fix the problem. its still running the vro and it seems to function like it should . Any advise is appreciated. Thanks

Did you clean the idle jets in the THROTTLE BODIES?? Many miss these. They are what the plastic carb bodies actually bolt to. If they are dirty you will have a crummy idle.

I did not touch the throttle bodies. Can you explain how to properly clean them? Thanks for your input

There are two covers on each one throttle body. They both face the starboard side, on each one. Should be two screws that hold each one on. There are idle passages there that often get missed. That will help with idle quality.
