Im getting kind of frustrated with this thing so I figured Id post for the gurus. I am very mechanically inclined and electrically savvy so feel free to get technical with your posts. My motor ran great last week, 80 mile round trip trolling, bottom fishing off/on everything. I went to start it this morning turnover like it usually does, shut it down, put it in the water and it ran for about a minute then shut off, i attributed this to it being cold. Could not get it to restart for anything, tried ether, tried changing the plugs, changed the bulbs from the other running motor, changed the actual fuel input from the other motor and am now stumped. Carbs were rebuilt 4 months ago and the priming system is working fine. Things I am noticing,
1. Tach is irratic sometimes while cranking, then smooths out to the 1-2k rpms
2. Its not a fuel tank / delivery issue that is affecting both motors, so I am safe to say that it has to be after the bulb and motor specific.
3. I am getting spark form an inline spark tester on all the cylinders.
4. I switched harness' for the Tachs and the working motor runs fine on both tachs.
5. I have been in and out of the motor and there are no frayed wires or bad loose grounds
6. Battery level was low, so I jumped the bank and have all 4 batteries now hooked together and am charging them all, shows around 12.1 volts right now on the gauges but its still sucking 12 volts off the smart charger
7. My accessories all run off this motor and this bank of batteries, so needless to say it gets run down quicker then the other, however the batteries are less then a year old and are in good order.
I have decided I need to start trouble shooting the electrical components, I ordered a manual and they sent one from 86-91 johnson evinrude. If anyone has some place they can point me to get started before the manual gets here it would be appreciated. I dont think its fuel but am open to try and test anything that is suggested.
