1999 Johnson Outboard 50hp 2 stroke..wont crank, no fire at plugs.?

Hello to all..
New to site looking for some help. I picked up a " project boat" over Christmas and electrical issue of sort.

I"ve got a 1999 Johnson 50hp j50pleea, came with a boat I purchased. Guy that had it converted to tiller, and as you can imagine.. did some shabby wiring. It was running when I purchased it and cranked up every start...but now, won't crank.

No fire at plugs, tried that.
Not a fuel problem, check that.
New plugs
Where to next?
Coil pack?
Black yellow wire?
Turns over fine, battery good..

Do you mean won't crank over or won't start ??

Engine turns over fine, good hot battery, getting gas to plugs, just no spark at plugs..
Thinking it's something simple..

ground short due to salt water.. on coil , powerpack, etc?

kill switch on on tiller.. Which hooks to the black yellow wire...?

Wondering if there is some sort of kill switch on shifter.... that wont let it crank in forward or reverse?

I've been working on this thing for a few months, I"ve rebuilt the lower unit... top to bottom, and power tilt/trim motor...

Was running fine when I shut it down...just cant get it to fire back up..

Find the black/yellow wire where it comes out of the power pack and disconnect that. If you have spark, wiring prob. Still no spark, mtr prob.

Tried disconnecting back/yellow wire... still NO spark..

Check all connections, and grounds.... still NO spark..

Thinking it may be the coil, look to be original, as other componets...

but gonna pick up a multi meter guage and check all wires in and out..... anywhere on line to find speck on volts/amps.... on this particular animal?

Thinking, in the near future, ( new 40hp Yamaha )>>>>>>>>

Get a multi meter and a DVA adapter. Then go to CDI Electronics.com for the specs.
