Personally, there is no upside to kicking you around about this particular boat or not giving you an honest opinion. I'd rather tell you it's not a great choice, then have you buy it & be disappointed when it goes sideways........

Welcome to iboats, the best place for boats.

Re: 1999 marada hull crack

I just want to chime in and welcome you to what will become a very enjoyable and fun hobby...that of boating!
I have to completely concur with the responses you have gotten about this hunk of busted glass...RUN!
Don't make any offer, don't look back!
At the very least, if you are ready willing and able to get involved in boating, and cannot afford the payments a new boat will require, then your only real option is to join the club and buy the best boat and trailer possible, with a known good running engine, with the least amount of money and be prepared to do a full and complete restoration on it...it won't be easy and cheap is relative...it will not cost what a new boat does, but it will require a good chunk of change and tons of sweat equity...
The result will be a boat which is built better than the original manufacturer ever did, you will have learned a ton and it will probably outlast you...
All of that being said...
An easier to restore boat hull, still meeting the above criteria of a solid running engine and a useable and restorable trailer would be an aluminum type hull...
They require a lot less time , energy and money to bring back to better than new condition than a fiberglass hull...
Whatever you decide, we'll be here to help out however we can with tons of info and encouragement...
Best of Luck and have Fun!

A good 'horror' story to check out would be MY thread and let me tell you, that damage actually looks worse than what I had to deal with as far as 'cracked hull' issues... thats not a simple crack, that's rot and structural. I paid $1000 for a pro to fix mine, and thats after paying $1000 for the boat... and at this point, I may be looking for a motor soon too...but its 50/50... that motor is known to be shot right from the get go? Yup, run away from this as fast as you can.

Hey guys contrary to all ,I've decided to buy the marada. I ended up getting it for $500. I plan on taking my time and doing a full resto on her. Although I've never worked on a boat I feel I'm up for the challenge, I spent the last week reading through the site and watching Friscos videos to get an idea of what is to come. Once again I appreciate the feedback and hope I can count on you all for advice during the build.

Thanks Gus, my background is mostly on cars but believe I can take those skills and apply them during my build.

Ok, Let's get started. You should read this..."Fabricating Decks, Stringers, and Transoms"

and this

(Click the pic to download and view the PDF File)

View attachment MaterialsList.pdfand continue to watch all of Frisco Boaters videos.

Make sure and take LOTS of measurements and pics. You'll need them when you start to put everything back together. Make a list of everything you need to do and start to develop a plan and timeline of when and how you want to do it. Try to stick to the plan. Work on the boat a little every day. Even if it's only 10 minutes. If you do that you WILL "Git er Dun!"

Well good for you, it may be a steep learning curve to go around.. :p

Yes and no... i also have a fair bit of automotive skills, and yes, some can and do transfer over.. But to quote a friend of mine, "When your boat breaks down in the bay, you cant just leave it there and walk home." Also, your car wont sink on the highway if it has a small hole in the floor.. some things that you can 'let slide' in a car, are downright bad news on a boat. but enough of the doom and gloom, you got a good bunch of guys here and all the help/knowledge you could ever need. Good luck with her! :)
