1999/ mercury/tracker 40 hp

Trying to replace the Imp& shift shaft boot on this thing. where do you find part's for these cross breed motor's??? the sel# plate is faded so bad I cnn't read the # . DO i get merc. part's or force part's?

Check on the powerhead around the cylinder area for a small freeze plug with the serial number stamped in it.
If it's a 3 or 4 cylinder motor, it's a Merc, if it's a 2 cylinder motor, it could be a Merc. or a Force.
