My Daughter and son-in-law are looking at purchasing this boat. It has a 5.0L mercruiser and alpha 1 drive. What should they be aware of other than the obvious - condition, hours, etc? Haven't seen it and no pics.

Good boat with a good powertrain, so it's all about how it's been treated for the past 13 years. Maintenance records and receipts are a good place to start.

Have someone who knows boats (third party) do a sincere check of the condition. Have the engine checked by a mechanic....... look for maintenance records...... and GET A WATER TEST for at least 30 minutes.

I'm a new boat owner but after looking at a few boats I've learned a lot. I would strongly suggest they pay or have someone who knows about boats to go check it out. There are people/services that will check it out from front to back for a fee. The last thing you want to find out is after buying it it needs say new stringers, engine etc. We were very very lucky, I couldn't get anyone I knew that has boat buying experience to go with us (ours was 200 miles away) and I didn't know about the professional inspectors until after we bought it. But things I looked for were general appearance, if the engine leaked anything when it was running. After we got it home I started going over it and found some things I never thought to look for......white frothy fluid in the trim pump, dry rotted boots on the out drive, shifter cable and inlet hoses. Soft spots on the floor could be a potential issue as well. Check the fuel filter to see if there is little things floating around, that was a major issue with ours and we ended up spending about 700 bucks to make it right. Hope this helps in some way.
