Hello All,
I am looking at getting a boat for the family. I found a 1999 190ls with the Mercruiser 4.3 with 225 hours that is around our price range. I am going to look at it tomorrow. But with the water still frozen, what should i look for or get tested on the boat? I plan on a compression check for the cylinders and lower case check. Anything else to look for? Thanks in advance.

Take it to a marine dealer and have them do a pre purchase inspection. If you can't determine by yourself if the wood and stringers are solid, might want to have it surveyed. Sounds like you live in a climate with harsh seasons. If you have high humidity and the boat was ever stored outside and uncovered, you may have rotted wood.

Other than that, if the drive checks out good..bellows are solid and motor checks out good..might be a good buy..How much are they asking?

It is at a dealer, they are asking 10,999. Talked to the sales man today and he said that they do go over everything, bellows, gimbal, and replace all the fluids before they put them up for sale. It did have a blower that was bad, so they replaced it. They will store it and also have a 30 day warranty on it once we pick it up after ice out.

I wouldn't necessarily take their word for it. Take it to a 3rd party that you trust. Small price to pay that can save you big bucks in the end.... Happy boating!!

That's an 11 year old boat. In my estimation, it sold for about $15 - 16K new. The NADA book value now is $5k. "Nobody" is buying a boat now in this economy. It's a buyer's market. Print out the NADA price sheet and show it to the dealer. You are paying a lot extra for that 30 day warranty.

I own a Stingray myself, so I'm not knocking the boat. It's just wayyy over priced.

I sold an 2001 19ft Glastron, SX 195, VEC construction with 4.3Liter and similiar hours last season for $8,500.00. Stored inside, never left in water except during one week vacations each summer, I was the original owner and that boat was treated with kid Gloves. I believe that price is high.

I have the same boat, 2004 version. I love it. I would think I would be lucky to get that price on mine -- 5 years newer!

The ski lockers can hold moisture is you use them and don't let them dry out. I would definitely look in there for any signs of rot too.

I realize most of us didn't answer your question. Are you located in Canada and shopping in Canada? It seems their prices don't match U.S. prices. If you are not in another country, that price does not match that boat. Looks like you would have already looked at it by now. What happened?
